📍 Omaha, NE | 🗓️ September 5–6

Join us at the NATI 2025 Annual Conference to hear from Dr. Deb Cates, President of the National Association of Interpreters in Education.

Dr. Cates (Deb) serves as the Language Resources Coordinator at the Iowa School for the Deaf, overseeing the SLPI program and interpreter professional development throughout Iowa. She is President of the National Association of Interpreters in Education, Iowa’s TASK-12 representative, and a licensed interpreter in both Iowa and Nebraska. Her research examines interpreter skills in educational settings, their impact on student learning, and the role of Deaf language coaches.

At this year’s conference, Dr. Cates will present: “Trauma-Informed Interpreting.”
Interpreters often work with underserved communities and in systems where they may witness or experience vicarious trauma. This 2-hour session explores trauma’s impact across the lifespan, its implications for interpreting, and practical strategies for recognizing trauma responses, adapting practice, and managing vicarious trauma.
