2009 Board Election Results
2009 Election Committee:
Chairman - Frank McCrary
Committee Member - Marsha Conroy
The membership owes a debt of gratitude to the Election Committee for their efforts in carrying out the election process. It is time-consuming work that is often under appreciated. The association could not continue to function without the dedication of Directors and members willing to participate in the election process.
Thank you, Frank and Marsha for a job well done!
Election Process:
Anyone who is a current member of NATI (dues paid to date) may nominate or be nominated as a candidate for the Board of Directors.
The membership elects the Directors shortly after the Annual Meeting and Conference according the following process. Nominations for the open seats on the Board of Directors starts with the Call for Nominations that is published one month prior to the Annual Meeting and end two weeks prior to the mailing of ballots to the dues-current membership.
The board verifies that the nominees are in fact dues-current and that they have accepted the nomination. The ballots are then sent to the members along with the nominees' statement of intent and biographical information. Ballots are returned by the deadline, called 'Election Day,' and are counted.
The newly elected Directors are installed and Executive Committe Officers are elected from among the Directors by the Board of Directors at the first meeting of the new board. In odd numbered years, the President and Treasure are elected. In even numbered years, the Vice President and Secretary are elected.
Board meetings are open to all members to attend as observers. Members wishing to address the board on a topic, must make an advanced written request to the Executive Commitee which then places on the board agenda the topic and the member for participation in the discussion on that topic.
Directors with one year left in their current term are:
- Janet Bonet - Omaha
- Marsha Conroy - Omaha
- Fermin Garcia - Omaha
2009 Election Results:
Because one of the Board's responsibilities is its fiduciary duty, it was recommended by the Election Committee to declare the nominees elected by acclamation of the Board. This was done by taking into consideration: a) the cost of mailing ballots, b) the value of election process volunteers' time and effort, and c) there were nine (9) open seats on the Board and nine (9) qualified nominees. The full Board voted and agreed with the Election Committee recommendation.
Therefore, the following NATI members were elected to the Board of Directors.
- Erica Birky Rios - Lincoln (Re-elected)
- Jaime Bonet - Omaha (Re-elected)
- Abbie Greenfield Domingues - Omaha (Re-elected)
- Joana Lorena Luna Spindola - Schuyler (New)
- Jennifer McGill - Omaha (New)
- Patricia Reyes-Covalt - Kearney (New)
- Erick Ernesto Saavedra Avila - Lincoln (New)
- Joan Wallace - Omaha (New)
- Ricky Wray - Lincoln (Re-elected)
Terms of service:
Directors are elected for a term of two years. For the group elected in 2009, terms will vary because some seats were vacated prior to the previous director completing his/her term on the board. Those vacated seats will be filled for the year remaining in their term.
